WELCOME TO NCCEE’S Seventh Annual ECONOMICS CHALLENGE!

North Carolina's Preliminary round of the Council for Economic Education National Economics Challenge

Registration Deadline: March 24th, 2010

Registration will be open to all North Carolina high school students from December 1 – March 24, 2010.  The 2010's Challenge will introduce a new format.  To encourage larger participation, become more efficient and reduce expenses, the Econ Challenge will be conducted in four phases:

Phase One: The Online Preliminary Round is open for testing from March 24-30. The five highest scoring teams will be invited to the Federal Reserve Bank in Charlotte to participate in the State Championship competition. Winners from the eight separate regions of North Carolina will be recognized at a NCCEE awards banquet in May.

Phase Two: State Championship Competition. Will take place on April 13, at the Federal Reserve Bank in Charlotte. The State Championship of the Economics Challenge follows the traditional format:  three paper and pencil rounds culminating in a quiz bowl between the top two teams from each division.

Phase Three: The Semifinals. On April 26, state champions will compete in the National Semifinals. The six top scoring teams from around the country will advance and travel to New York City, where they will compete for the National Championship title.

Phase Four: The final National Competition will be held in New York City on May 22-24, 2010. The finals will be conducted in a "college bowl" tournament style and will require teams to answer rigorous questions about complex economic concepts and theories of micro-and-macroeconomics, international economics, and current events. Approximately 200 educators, students and economists are expected to attend the event, which will award prizes to the first and second place teams and their teacher-coaches.

How To Get Started: TEACHERS: You will be asked to enter each teamname” and student names for each team (3 or 4 students on a team).  Once NCCEE verifies your status for competition, you will receive an email containing information and individual passwords for each team.  See competition details below, especially Coach’s Responsibility.  You will be asked to submit Student and Coach surveys only if you are moving on the Semifinals and to the National Competition.  (Note: parent signatures are not required for online participants.)

STUDENTS: TAKE THE CHALLENGE!  You may take the online Challenge only on the given dates. Your team will need to know its assigned team name and password to login and take the Challenge quiz.  A teacher or administrator must monitor the online quiz.
