Raleigh, N.C. –– The North Carolina Council on Economic Education, NCCEE, announced today that it has received a $7,500 contribution from RBC. Raleigh, N.C. –– The North Carolina Council on Economic Education, NCCEE, announced today that it has received a $10,000 contribution from the Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation. 2011 County Marketing Middle School Contest. Students from middle schools across the state competed in a PowerPoint presentation format. The County Marketing Contest is a contest designed to be an extension of the middle school standards for social studies (economics), technology and language arts. Students created a PowerPoint presentation that persuades companies to relocate or expand to a given county. To view winners click here. 2011 Calendar Poster Elementary School Contest. Students from elementary schools across the state enhanced their learning experience by participating in the annual Calendar Poster Contest. Teachers submitted artwork illustrating one of 8 economic concepts. Winning illustrations are included in a sixteen month calendar, sponsored by First Citizens Bank. Teachers signed up student teams to compete with nearly 2000 registered teams across North Carolina to win this honor. The final competition will take place in NY City on May 22, 2011. The North Carolina Council on Economic Education (NCCEE) announced today that it has received a $10,000 contribution from the BB&T Charitable Foundation in support of the NCCEE’s economic and financial literacy efforts for North Carolina’s educators and students. The North Carolina Council on Economic Education (NCCEE) announced today that it has received a $15,000 operating funds grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation in support of the NCCEE’s economic and financial literacy efforts for North Carolina’s educators and students. “The MA in Economic Education from the University of Delaware is open for applications.” Announcing the 2011 Capitol Hill Challenge. It provides Members of Congress an opportunity to visit the schools in their home states or districts to witness the valuable academic and life lessons students learn from the SIFMA Foundation’s SMG program – and to inspire and serve as role models for the students. State Board of Education Approves Revised Social Studies Standards; The revised standards also include a stronger focus on financial literacy. State Treasurer and State Board of Education member Janet Cowell has been a strong proponent of financial literacy in the state’s social studies curriculum. Algenon Cash, managing director of Wharton Gladden & Company, has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Council on Economic Education (NCCEE) where he will serve on their Executive Committee. Algenon’s responsibility will include governmental affairs and communication strategy. NCCEE Teaches Financial Survival Skills to AmeriCorps Members AmeriCorps members earn a stipend of $1,000 per month. NCCEE partnered with the NC Governor’s Office and the State Employees’ Credit Union to bring them crucial financial training.
