Do you need support with a specific personal finance topic? Want an industry expert to share their knowledge with your students? NCCEE is pleased to offer guest speakers during April, which is Financial Literacy Month! Speakers can cover topics like saving, investing, insurance, budgeting/money management, and credit/debt. You may also request other topics if yours doesn’t fit into one of these categories. Don’t miss this chance to engage industry professionals in your classroom and build your students’ knowledge during Financial Literacy Month.

Calling all middle school teachers! Join us for an interactive workshop focusing on the middle school economic and personal finance standards. This workshop will provide lesson plans for each grade level that correlate with the most challenging topics to teach. We will share multiple resources including activities, articles, lesson plans, and videos. Focus sessions throughout the day will demonstrate resources and highlight activities you can take to your classroom the next day! Leave with tons of grade specific ideas to incorporate into your curriculum and excite your students. 

Join us for an interactive, all grades professional development session! During this full day workshop, we will focus on EconEdLink, a premier economics and personal finance resource that has over 900 free activities, articles, lesson plans, and videos! During the day, we will have focus sessions for each grade level to ensure the workshop meets your needs. Each focus session will be interactive and highlight an activity you can take to your classroom the next day!  Leave with tons of grade specific ideas to incorporate into your curriculum and excite students about learning economics and personal finance at any age.

This virtual EPF Institute will meet on 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/21 and 2/28 for five total meetings. Attendees will be required to attend and be actively engaged from 8am-4pm on each listed date, meaning teachers will not be able to manage students in the classroom simultaneously. NCCEE will provide sub-pay reimbursement up to $500.

This workshop for elementary teachers will utilize popular children’s books to teach standards such as trade/barter, opportunity cost, entrepreneurship, saving, history, segregation, character education, income, goods and services, risk and reward, and human resources. Come explore books from The Giving Tree to the Berenstain Bears! Attending teachers will receive a certificate for 7 hours of professional development and a $125 stipend or sub pay reimbursement up to $125. 

This virtual EPF Institute will meet on 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25 and 11/1 for five total meetings. Attendees will be required to attend and be actively engaged from 8am-4pm on each listed date, meaning teachers will not be able to manage students in the classroom simultaneously. NCCEE will provide sub-pay reimbursement up to $500.

This fast-paced, interactive workshop shows teachers how the economic way of thinking can be used to improve teaching and learning of American history. Presenters Dr. Scott Niederjohn and Dr. Mark Schug will discuss supplemental textbooks covering economic events throughout American History. Attendees will receive 2 free textbooks during the workshop and will also choose which classroom set they would like. Classroom sets will be mailed after the workshop to the address provided on the registration form.

This interactive workshop shows how the economic way of thinking can be used to improve the teaching and learning of American history. The presenters are co-authors of the supplemental textbook Economic Episodes in American History. Attendees will receive 21 copies of the book, breakfast, and lunch, and a stipend of $125 or sub-pay reimbursement.

Teachers will examine the data surrounding the racial wealth gap and will provide strategies for students to build generational wealth. Please come prepared to participate in discussions and activities.

Comments: This workshop is designed for CTE teachers serving in Title 1 schools or schools where greater than 50% of the student population qualifies for free/reduced-cost meals, and who need tips for integrating accounting principles and personal finance. Teachers will have an opportunity to explore strategies that teach basic accounting skills that can be applied in a professional or personal setting. Additionally, NCCEE will highlight a resource that can be shared with students that outlines the jobs outlook for NC by region including demand, salary expectation, and level of education required. Are you going to be teaching the Economics and Personal Finance Course soon and have no idea where to begin? This asynchronous course gives an idea of what to expect and where to begin. Teachers who complete the course will receive a certificate for 10 hours of PD. Please note, this is not a substitute for a 40-hour EPF Institute, it is a preview.

This workshop is designed for high school social studies and CTE teachers serving in Title 1 schools or schools where greater than 50% of the student population qualifies for free/reduced-cost meals, who need tips for integrating accounting principles and personal finance. Teachers will have an opportunity to explore strategies that teach basic accounting skills that can be applied in a professional or personal setting. Additionally, NCCEE will highlight a resource that can be shared with students that outlines the jobs outlook for NC by region including demand, salary expectation, and level of education required. Last, you will learn about a program from Appalachian State University that provides scholarships for first-generation students that guarantees job placement upon graduation. This session is all about a secure future for your students. The session will be presented via Zoom and will be very interactive. Please come prepared to participate and have fun. There is no cost to attend but space is limited.

This workshop is designed for elementary teachers who are looking for strategies to incorporate the new social studies standards, specifically the economics and personal finance strands, into math and reading. Teachers will have an opportunity to explore multiple resources with hundreds of lessons that look at econ and personal finance through the lens of math and children’s literature. The session will be presented via Zoom and will be very interactive. Please come prepared to participate and have fun. Also, there will be a lunch Q&A panel with finance industry professionals. Please consider being prepared with a question or two. There is no cost to attend but space is limited.

The Money $mart Magic $how features a series of videos that will educate and entertain your elementary students. Register to utilize this video series that features magic tricks, illusions, and humor to teach money concepts. The series includes short ~5.5 minute videos that teach specific content. The National Economics Challenge is a state, regional, and national competition for high school students designed to increase their understanding of and interest in economics and finance.
